WHAT IS ART THERAPY? A One-DayWorkshop

Art therapy is an established mental health profession that uses art-making and the creative process to improve well-being for people of all ages. This workshop is useful for anyone who wants to understand what Art Therapy is and how it works. 

Through a blend of experiential exercises and theory, participants will gain an understanding on how art can be used to gain personal insight, support authentic self-expression, and for self-care purposes. This is a general interest course that is also suitable for social workers, psychologists and other health care practitioners who want a deeper understanding of how to incorporate various art techniques in their practice.

WHAT IS DRAMA THERAPY?
This is a one-day interactive workshop for individuals who are curious about drama therapy and want to learn more about its basic theories and techniques. Drama Therapy is an established and powerful therapeutic modality that emphasizes an embodied process of exploring mental health, behavioral and relationship issues. It can also be used as an educational and problem-solving tool. It utilizes the therapeutic quality of creative expression through role-play, projective identification, storytelling, movement and play.The day will be divided into four parts:

1.Group warm up games useful for releasing inhibitions, stress and building trust. 

2. Role-play techniques helpful in exploring personal relationship issues and increasing communication skills.

3.  Projective identification techniques used to increase personal awareness and understand identity issues or emotional blocks. 

4. Discussion and adapting drama therapy techniques to your needs.

The workshop is open to the general public and would be very useful to therapists, educators, parents or business entrepreneurs who would like to incorporate more creativity into their work.

ATELIER D’AFFIRMATION DE SOI

L’Affirmation de soi c’est l’expression efficace, sincère et directe de ce que l’on pense, ce que l’on veut, ce que l’on ressent, tout en respectant son entourage, et sans redouter la confrontation. Cet atelier vous fournira les outils nécessaires à une communication saine de vos besoins et émotions.

Le groupe sera formé de 6 à 9 personnes, et les rencontres se dérouleront sur  une période 6 semaines, à raison de 2 heures chacune.

Groupe en français:

Les lundis: 21 et 28 Octobre, et 04, 11, 18 et 25 Novembre 2013 de 18h à 20h.

Groupe en anglais:

EXPRESSING THE SELF THROUGH ART THERAPY - 6-week group

Led by a professional Art Therapist, this six-week course will give you the space to look inwards and help support you along your path to self-discovery. Within a safe and supportive environment, you will be guided to express yourself through a variety of different art materials and art therapy techniques such as drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. No previous art experience or talent is required, only a willingness to play and explore.

CREATING CONNECTIONS - DRAMA THERAPY GROUP FOR WOMEN
 
What to do when we often find ourselves detached or unsatisfied in our relationships with friends, family, co-workers or lovers? This short-term therapy group will address emotional voids that develop between and within people. Through a series of embodied techniques, including role-play, journal writing and group discussions, group members will be supported to examine their personal relationships and deepen a connection with their own heart and mind.

UNLEASH: AN INTENSIVE SELF-REVELATORY PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP
 
This four-week workshop will guide participants through the creation of a cathartic solo performance. Often we find ourselves silenced, overwhelmed and grappling with hurtful stories and identities in our heads. Through self-revelatory performance these blockages are explored, released and transformed. The goal is to claim and transcend our stories, so they no longer hold power over us. Through the use of therapeutic journaling and embodied performance techniques participants will be supported in identifying the personal story they wish to explore and developing a short self-revelatory performance, creating a strong path for their personal growth and discovery.
 
Previous performance experience is not needed!

CREATING MEMORY AND MEANING: BOOKMAKING WORKSHOP
 
Join art therapist Esther Kalaba in this workshop that focuses on creating a unique memorial book that honours a loved one who has died. Using this format as a canvas, as well as a combination of words, images, collage and mixed media, participants will be guided through the process of creating their own story about the memories of their loved ones and incorporate these memories in the context of their current lives.
 
This is a two-day workshop.
 
Date: Saturday, November 2nd, 2013 from 1-5pm and Sunday, November 3 from 1-4 pm.
